A while back I posted photos from the Burmese city George Orwell – the famous and infamous author – grew up in. About 300km from Yangon, Mawlamyine is Burma’s 3rd largest city and a lazy town with a meandering boardwalk reminiscent of Havana’s Malecon minus the Habana Gold rum.

Just like their Cuban brethren, the Burmese are automotive MacGyvers, keeping what coulda, shoulda been junked cars running long past their expiry.

In this town, like in Havana, old cars and especially trucks and vans crowd the city’s streets picking up passengers, like in the below photo of an old Toyota.
