Around the bend from Folly Point Lighthouse, the town’s biggest folly awaits. Built in 1902, the 60 room mansion was home to American millionaire Alfred Mitchell. A businessman by trade, Mitchell married into the Tiffany family (the jewelry one), and his fortunes grew.

During the mansion’s construction, builders used sea rather than fresh water in the concrete mix which caused the structures iron reinforcing rods to rust and roof’s eventual collapse.

All that remains of the once glorious palace is a haunting skeleton of limestone columns and walls overlooking the Caribbean Ocean, a striking contrast to the mansion’s former grandeur.
