I wrote in an earlier post about Falmouth’s oldest public building, the St. Peter the Apostle Church. Built in 1796, St. Peter’s was the first church built in Trelawny, the parish (state) Falmouth sits in and near the popular tourist town Montego Bay.

The church was constructed of limestone and bricks imported from Liverpool, England on land donated by the plantation owner Edward Barrett, who died 3 years after the church’s completion.

The church’s interior furnishings including the pulpit, chancel, baptismal font and pews are all original and made of Jamaican mahogany. Overhead, a clock tower, added 2 years after the church’s initial completion, still hangs in the belfry.

More information about the church can be found here.
