Few places whisper loneliness like the snow swept hills of southwest Pennsylvania.

When forecasters predict inclement weather, residents of the region brace for the storm’s icy fist.

Winters are harsh and brutal, blizzards and snow drifts corrupt the impassibly curvy roads at the worst and make them treacherous, at the least.

Lush hills, speckled with corn and soybeans in summer, lie buried under the many feet of snow that glistens in the cold winter sun while long windy nights feel punctuated by the sun’s short days, the only respite from winter’s monochromatic beauty.
